Network

The current members of the PETRA-E Network believe that an open, ongoing debate about purposes and approaches and the exchange of methods, instruments and ideas contributes to the quality of the education of literary translators in itself. ‘Quality’ of literary translations cannot be unambiguous  defined. We welcome different approaches and opinions about what is a good translation and who is a good translator. The same applies to the education of literary translators. We believe that there isn’t one ‘best’ way to learn. Instead, there are many possible ways.

The network has been founded by 8 partners: BCLT (Norwich), CEATL (European network), Deutscher Übersetzerfonds (Berlin), ELTE (Budapest), FUSP (Misano), KU Leuven, Nederlandse Taalunie (The Hague) and Universiteit Utrecht**.

The Nederlandse Taalunie (Dutch Language Union) holds the position of the secretariat of the PETRA-E Network. The PETRA-E Network collaborates and maintains relationships with many other European networks in the field of translation, language and multilingualism. Among them are: CEATL (translators organisations), RECIT (translators houses), EFNIL (national institutions for language), the Goudfazant Network.

**BCLT=British Centre for Literary Translation, CEATL=Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires, Deutscher Übersetzerfonds, ELTE=Eötvös Loránd University, FUSP=Fondazione Universitaria San Pellegrino.

PETRA-E is also an official partner of ESLT, the European School of Literary Translation.
